It's eventually going to be a camera mount for a cycle helmet. At the moment its my first go at getting the camera side mount bolted onto the helmet shell. This is a Protec style skateboard helmet so the outer shell is thick plastic and seems able to deal with the bolts. Next step is to add a 6V rechargable battery pack and halogen video light on the other side. Hopefully this will act as a counter weight to the camera if I've weighed things correctly.

but his "baling wire and scotch tape" looked a little sketchy (even though the videos he's produced with this rig are amazing) so I thought I'd try to make something a little more robust.
It's amazing how a coat of matt black spray paint can make anything look like a piece of professional video equipment (that bracket is a metal book end found in a charity shop, still needs to be cut down as its too wide).
As soon as I get it working I'll post a link to a test video. with any luck I'll have it going in time for the next critical mass.

First test setup with no counter weight.


Lots of bits and bobs from the charity shop. My budget was about 20euro for the whole thing. The most expensive bit was the matt black spray. Those weights were 20cents each, the 660g one was just the right weight to balance the camera (with the extra 150g of the AA batteries in the flood lamp).

Flash mounting sawn out of an old 35mm compact camera (50cents in the charity shop).




First test run, a Monday morning journey to work with a city-wide transport strike. The camera is covered by a black sock and bolted to the plate. A bungee cargo net is strapped around in case the bolt comes un-done.
